Card Based Ingest with ContentAgent

In any end-to-end tapeless post-production workflow, one of the longest and most time-consuming processes is ingesting card-based media. Rows of Logging Assistants sit at banks of workstations, manually importing hundreds of hours of rushes to editing systems, transcoding to online and offline editing formats, and checking vital information such as the card name is recorded as metadata. In an age where file based systems are meant to afford the user greatly improved ease of use and time savings, it begs the question, why are these types of workflows not being automated? […]

Getting To Grips with DPP Deliverables

Turn challenges into opportunities
As the nation’s major broadcasters start their switchover to file-based programmme delivery on the 1st October 2014, content producers around the UK are scrambling to battle stations in order to meet the challenges presented by the DPP delivery requirements based around AMWA AS-11 standard. Such a rigid specification may seem a daunting and complex step to tackle – but with the right tools, it’s easy to take advantage of the narrow parameters of the DPP standard and turn challenge into opportunity with cost and time savings further down the line.

One of the main challenges facing content producers is that the specification brings together several different practices into one delivery process – stringent QC practices, precise metadata schemas, and deep technical requirements. However, with a well thought-out workflow, all these can be neatly concatenated into an automated streamlined process.

ContentAgent – Advanced frame rate conversion option

Features
The Advanced Frame Rate Converter feature set is built around a powerful phase correlation motion estimation engine called PixelStrings™.  PixelStrings performs analysis on each frame, mapping the velocity and direction of each individual pixel.  It then uses that motion information to predict (or synthesize) new frames at any point in time.  The result is smooth motion playback at any frame rate.  […]

Automating AS-11 DPP File Based Delivery

As previously discussed within this blog, file based workflows are now becoming the norm in post production and broadcast as companies move away from traditional tape based environments to an IT centric infrastructure.  Companies are under financial pressure to reduce costs as program and equipment budgets are squeezed, yet at the same time need to be more efficient in their production, post production and distribution/broadcast environments.

Many Productions have moved to using file based cameras to record content. Nearly all productions are now edited using non linear computer based editing systems (NLE’s), many using shared storage to enable collaboration during editorial.  File based delivery for commercials has been common now for a number of years. Accelerate your Red Workflow

Red Digital has become synonymous over the last 4 years for enabling filmmakers around the world with the first 4k digital camera in an affordable package, which produces excellent images.

Since Red’s first camera system was released in 2007 (the RED One) two other cameras have been released, the EPIC, which can record images up to 5k resolution and Scarlet, a lower cost camera system for independent filmmakers.

While RED cameras produce excellent images out of the camera, the files need to be processed to be usable in many workflows (similar to a DSLR stills camera requiring RAW files to be processed). RED R3D image files require processing before being viewable (and useable) by other applications for post production and distribution of the final product, program, edit etc… […]
